Nancy Claire Stewart Hamm Hingston
Jan. 13, 1932 — Feb. 9, 2019
Nancy ended her journey on earth and joined her Father’s heavenly choir on Feb. 9, 2019.
Mom’s journey started where she was born in Clarkston, Wash., to Lloyd and Viola (Babe) Stewart. She was the second of eight children, four of which passed before her. She graduated from Clarkston High School in 1948.
Her greatest joy was her family and helping others. She was an avid gardener, seamstress and cook, and her singing lifted your heart and brought tears to your eyes. She was proud of being Irish and instilled many sayings and values in our lives through her quotes and humor.
Mom married Arnold M. Lyons in 1948. They later divorced.
In 1957 she married James O. Hamm and they enjoyed 37 years together. They shared a love for square dancing and being active socially. Mom was a gracious and elegant hostess, preparing amazing and creative meals and appetizers. They enjoyed spending time with their children traveling, camping and at the float house on Hidden Bay, Coeur d’Alene Lake. Jim passed in 1994.
Elmer R. Hingston, a longtime friend of Jim and Mom, married her in 1998. She and Elmer built their new home and lives together in Post Falls, Idaho. For more than 20 years Elmer treated her as the lady she was; bringing her joy, adventure and sharing in their many interests. All of us thank Elmer for the loving care he gave her.
With her bonus children, which she took into the nest gladly and lovingly, she left five sons: Steve Hamm, Kerry Lyon, David Hamm, Dan Hamm and Mike Hingston; and seven daughters: LaFawn Hamm, Evonne Rubino, Heidi Atencio, Kathy Lyon, Cindy Moore, Loraine Roach and Louise Niccum. She has 25 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The hole in our lives and hearts can only be filled when we see her again, but her memories and joy will brighten our days until then.
She was an active member of the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and Philanthropic Education Organization (PEO).
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at the Church of the Nativity in Lewiston, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest you give a memorial donation in her name to the North Idaho Hospice or a charity of your choice.
