Cd'A Education Partnership to present State of the District

| February 8, 2019 12:00 AM

The Coeur d’Alene Education Partnership will present the seventh annual State of the District Community Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

Presented in partnership with the Coeur d’Alene School District, the forum will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Innovation Collective, 418 Lakeside Ave., Coeur d’Alene.

Parents, teachers, students and community members are invited to attend. This event is sponsored by Northwest Specialty Hospital.

The program will begin with a presentation by Coeur d’Alene Superintendent Steve Cook about the upcoming March 12 levy election.

“Local levy money provides about 22 percent of the district’s budget, essentially paying for one of every five days that school is in session,” said a news release. “Dr. Cook will present information about where we are and where we want to be and how the levy can help us get there.”

During the State of the District, the education partnership will present SPEAK Awards to an elementary student, a middle school student and a high school student.

The SPEAK Award, in its inaugural year, will be presented annually to “Students Performing Extraordinary Acts of Kindness.” This year’s three recipients will receive a gift card and a certificate.

The evening includes presentations about the student mental health efforts that are happening in our district.

Students and teachers will briefly talk about specific programs at different levels of our schools. The programs that will be discussed include: Sources of Strength, Cope to Thrive, QPR (Question-Persuade-Respond), and TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention).

“Part of why I am proud to be a teacher in the Coeur d’Alene School District is because they are as firmly committed to supporting students’ social and emotional wellness as they are committed to students’ academic excellence,” said Kirsten Pomerantz, 2018-19 District Educator of the Year.

The evening will conclude with a focus on Career Cruising and Coeur d’Alene Connects. From sixth grade through graduation, students are able to gain insights from local career mentors through this online mentor program. Find out how you can be a community mentor for a student interested in your career field and other ways students are benefitting from Career Cruising.

There will be opportunities after each segment for brief question-and-answer sessions.

The Coeur d’Alene Education Partnership is an independent, nonprofit partnership driven by the belief that every student in our district deserves a public education of the highest quality. We work to unite individuals, businesses, and organizations in support of excellence in public education, to keep the community informed about educational developments, and to promote superior public schools.

Refreshments will be provided.
