Curtis named Idaho Youth Ranch CEO
Idaho Youth Ranch has selected Scott Curtis to lead the next chapter of the 65-year-old nonprofit’s history as its new CEO.
Curtis previously served as vice president and chief advancement officer of Treasure Valley YMCA and before that, executive director of Caldwell Family YMCA. Curtis succeeds interim CEO Jason Fry.
“I love kids and have worked with and for them my entire life,” said Curtis, who also holds a master’s degree in social work. “I feel called to serve those who seem to fall through the cracks of society and am passionate about systemic change that eliminates the root causes of trauma so many Idaho youth are facing.”
Coeur d’Alene board member Harry Amend was on the CEO search team.
“We conducted a nationwide search meeting with some amazing applicants,” Amend said. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to find Scott. I believe Scott will be an outstanding leader to work with Amy Evans, our North Idaho regional director, to help us provide healing and hope to many more kids in the North Idaho area.”
Curtis’s appointment comes after the first phase of Idaho Youth Ranch’s capital campaign which raised more than $7 million, funding the Hands of Promise campus’s utility work, animal facilities, fencing, irrigation and the large indoor horse arena slated to open this March. The Youth Ranch is rapidly expanding its outpatient equine therapy program at the Hands of Promise campus, key to doubling the number of kids served in Idaho.
Melvin named 2019 Engineer of Merit
Post Falls City Engineer Bill Melvin was recently named the 2019 Engineer of Merit by the American Society of Civic Engineers (ASCE) Inland Empire Section at the annual banquet in Spokane.
Melvin was selected from 500 engineers in the Pacific Northwest Region.
Recipients of this award are considered to have made substantial contributions to the civil engineering profession through a distinguished career, service to ASCE, significant contributions toward improving conditions under which professional engineers serve in public and private practice.
Melvin received his civil engineering degree in 1985 from the University of Wyoming, and previously worked in California before moving to the Spokane area to work for Taylor Engineering in 1985.
As a project engineering manager, Melvin was involved with several notable projects that included the Phase II North Spokane Interceptor Sewer; Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena; Spokane International Airport; Spokane Centennial Trail and The Coeur d’Alene Resort’s 14th Hole floating Green.
For the past 23 years, Melvin has helped plan and manage the infrastructure of Post Falls as the city grew from 5,000 to more than 37,000 today.
During his time as city engineer, his city projects include the development of more than 250 subdivisions; more than 100 miles of roadway and sewer extension; 13 lift stations; 14 traffic signals and six roundabouts; planning for the sanitary sewer, water and transportation needs out to the year 2035; two freeway interchanges and one freeway overpass; two two-million gallon water standpipes; big box commercial development with two Walmarts and a Cabela’s and implementation of electronic as-built submittal standards. He has served as city representative and is a past chairman on the Kootenai County Transportation Team.
Roberts earns CRS designation
Alison Roberts with Windermere Coeur d’Alene Realty has been awarded the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation by the National Association of Realtors. Real estate professionals who receive the CRS Designation have completed advanced professional training and demonstrated outstanding professional achievement in residential real estate.
