Coeur d’Alene High School has been recognized for producing a “Best-of” yearbook publication for its 2018 edition.

Indianapolis-based Herff Jones, an achievement division of Varsity Brands, announced the North America yearbook honors in a Thursday news release.

The company chose 420 schools across multiple categories from the thousands of yearbooks it printed in 2018. Industry experts judged the yearbooks on various design and storytelling elements such as theme, coverage and more.

Coeur d’Alene was recognized in the Innovations category for its yearbook cover. The cover uses a very simple blue cover covered with a gray slipcase with the laser-cut word “BLUE.” The word shows through in blue, highlighting the yearbook’s theme: A Touch of Blue.

This is the eighth year in a row that the Coeur d’Alene High yearbook, The Viking, has been selected as one of the best by Herff Jones.

“Words cannot express how proud I am of the yearbook staff. They bust their humps every day to produce the best yearbook every year. I am fortunate to have them in my classroom,” said teacher Bruce Twitchell, Coeur d’Alene yearbook adviser.

Kari Greenbank was the senior editor of the yearbook.

“I am excited to be leading the staff this year where we are working hard to produce another award-winning yearbook. The leadership experience is helping me prepare for my future,” said current Viking editor Sara Minerath.

Each school received a printed copy of the publication “Portfolio,” which showcases the best-in-class yearbook work in 2018 from the more than 400 schools. The work can bee seen online at yearbookdiscoveries.com/showcase/. The company has published Portfolio for 24 years to recognize the top yearbooks.
