Timberlake wraps up IML title
- BOYS BASKETBALL
SPIRIT LAKE — Timberlake did just about everything it could not to accomplish its goal of an Intermountain League title.
But the Tigers did it anyway.
Jacob James scored 12 points for the Tigers, who outscored the Wildcats 15-6 in the third quarter, then held on late for a 45-43 win, clinching the league title and the right to host the 3A District 1 tournament.
“We did everything we could to give up the game at the end,” first-year Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. “We had a great third quarter, and just held on at the end.”
Raiden Rickets scored 13 points for Kellogg (6-13, 2-3 IML), which had a shot to win with 2.8 seconds remaining come up short.
“It’s going to be a tough game with Kellogg every time we play them,” Menti said. “They’ve been ruling the league for the last few years. But we did just enough to win.”
Kellogg won the last four IML titles. Timberlake won its first league title in 2013, and repeated as league champs in ’14.
Timberlake (7-10, 5-0) hosts Moscow on Friday.

PLUMMER — The Knights overcame a slow start to take the lead in the third quarter, and Talon Twoteeth’s two free throws with four seconds left sealed the win over the visiting Royals at Ron Miller Court.
“It was a really weird, off game for us,” Lakeside coach James Twoteeth said. “They jumped on us in the first quarter. It took us two quarters to get going. We started getting steals (in the third quarter), and we were finishing in transition.”
Twoteeth led Lakeside (12-6) with 14 points. Kenyon SpottedHorse added 13, Day Day Higgins 12 for the Knights.
Cross Pilgrim scored 12 points to lead North Idaho Christian, which led 23-20 at halftime.
“Their defensive intensity was real good in the first quarter,” James Twoteeth said of the Royals. “They were ready for us.”
