Tell us about yourself

Generation:

I am in between a millennial and Gen-X, but don't really fully identify with either. I didn't have a cellphone or an email address until college so I grew up learning about real social connection, but I also learned the incredible gifts of technology early in adulthood. I am thankful for the lessons learned by being in this generation!

Career and community involvement:

My husband, David, and I have owned Spoelstra Family Chiropractic and FOCUS for almost 11 years. I am a pediatric chiropractor with a special focus on neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood.

I am the founder of the FOCUS program, FOCUS Educational Services and Neuro-Deflective Retraining. I am the co-founder of Navigate Your Healing, an online platform for parents of children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Parental status:

I am parent to a beautiful 3-year-old little girl.

1. Exactly what does a chiropractor do?

There are different types of chiropractic. I am a pediatric chiropractor whose primary area of interest is the stress structural shifting the spine can create on the overall function of the nervous system and, therefore, health of your body. As a neuro-based chiropractor, my primary focus is to correct neuro-structural shifts of the spine that are creating stress on the underlying neurology. I have the privilege of helping people live their best expression of life!

2. What do you love about this work?

I love seeing people of all ages regain their life and health! I also love helping other doctors learn how to improve their work with children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

3. What was your favorite subject in school and why?

Neurology and philosophy. I love learning!

4. What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I played water polo in college!

5. If you had one superpower, what would it be?

I LOVE history and I love people. I have often said I wish I could know someone’s or a place’s entire history when I first met them.
