Donald E. Randall, 82

Maj. Donald E. Randall (Ret.), 82, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away on Jan. 25, 2019. He was born Jan. 7, 1937, to Lloyd and Lucille (Strang) Randall, in Moscow, Idaho.

He attended Moscow High School, played drums in the dance band and graduated in 1955, when he began his military career and joined the U.S. Army. He retired as a Green Beret in Special Forces. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and Air Medal. In 1975 he retired from serving his country and returned to his hometown, where he was employed by Moscow Parks and Recreation Department and was a volunteer with Moscow Fire Department. In 1990, Don and his wife, Gerrie Tenwick, moved to Post Falls, Idaho, and later to Hayden, Idaho, where they spent the next 30 years except for several seasons of snow birding in Arizona, where they would meet up with longtime Moscow friends.

Don was a lifelong member of the NRA, a Fraternal Order of Eagles member and a Post Falls Eagles Camper Club member. He was an avid Vandal and Seahawk fan, and liked to golf, camp and fish. He was great at the BBQ, and his family teased him about being a man of many words — as he silently listened to chatter at family gatherings, yet would throw out a quick-witted joke on occasion.

He is survived by his wife, Gerrie Tenwick; sister, Floretta Ekelund; son, Donald Randall, Jr.; step-daughters, Cindy Tenwick (Bill Ehrmantrout) and Cathy Tenwick; grandchildren, Heather Doney, Loren Burnham, Isak Burnham, Shelby Randall and his extended family at Wellspring Meadows Assisted Living.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale; son, Darrell and grandson, Brandon Doney.

Special thanks to Auburn Crest Hospice for their comfort and caring during Don’s illness.

No services will be held at Don’s request; memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
