RATHDRUM — A Rathdrum woman and a Montana man were injured Monday when a tractor pulling two trailers collided with a pickup truck on Highway 53 near Atlas Road, east of Rathdrum.

The crash occurred after Charlotte M. Larson, 54, of Rathdrum, was traveling south on Atlas Road and failed to yield at the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 53, according to Idaho State Police.

A Kenworth tractor, pulling two trailers and driven by Roger A. Schroeder, 52, of Kalispell, Mont., struck Larson’s red 2006 Dodge pickup in the intersection. Schroeder’s rear trailer rolled over, spilling a full load of lumber.

Matthew Diel, 47, of Sandpoint, was traveling east on Highway 53 in a white 2011 Subaru Legacy. Diel’s vehicle was struck by the lumber from Schroeder’s trailer.

Larson and Schroeder were both transported to Kootenai Health with injuries. Larson was treated and released, while Schroeder was in good condition on Monday night. Diel was not injured. The highway was blocked for about one hour.
