Joyce (Joy) Lansdell Croom
Joyce departed our earthly world far too soon on Nov. 4, 2018, at 83 years of age. She left behind her true love of over 60 years, Jacques H. Croom, Sr., a loving son, five grandchildren and so many friends.
Joyce was born on June 17, 1935, to Muriel Virginia (Rowe) and Julian Bass Lansdell in Philadelphia, Pa. Daughter of an Army man, she moved frequently before settling in New Jersey. She studied library sciences at Florida State University and continued her education, receiving her master’s degree at the University of North Carolina, where she was to meet the man of her dreams. On July 27, 1958, they wed in Fayetteville, N.C. and had two boys, Jacques Jr. and Richard Thomas Croom.
Joyce enjoyed so many things in life. She was so creative — painting, designing and creating doll houses, making clothes for dolls and assisting Jacques Sr. with his numerous projects around the house. She was heavily involved in the PTA, Boy Scouts, teaching at the elementary school and always working with her two boys.
One of her greatest joys was the beach. From Jersey Beach as a child to the outer banks to the Florida coast, Joyce always enjoyed walking the dunes looking for shells to add to her art collection.
Joyce was an only child but fell in love with the Croom family and vacationed often with her in-laws and nieces and nephews. Her life would not have been complete without her cats; there was never a minute when she wasn’t feeding, petting, holding or loving her pets.
Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Richard.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at the Mountain Lake Baptist Church, 2215 N. Seventh St., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815. There will be a reception following the service at her home.
