Idaho women add

grad transfer point guard

MOSCOW — Idaho’s women’s basketball team announced the addition of graduate transfer Juliet Jones for the 2018-19 season on Monday.

The 5-foot-9 Jones will have just the one year of eligibility at Idaho after spending the 2017-18 season at Cal State San Marcos. Jones is no stranger to the Big Sky Conference — she spent the first three years of her career at Idaho State.

“I think Juliet is a fantastic get for us,” Idaho coach Jon Newlee said. “She is going to bring us instant experience and depth at the point guard position. She has played in the Big Sky and knows all of the venues and teams. She is a great piece for us to have going into this upcoming season.”

The San Diego native appeared in 26 games and earned nine starts last season for the Cougars. She scored in double-digits in eight games, including a career-high 22 points against Stanislaus State. Jones led the team with 71 assists, totaling 2.7 per game. She was second in minutes (25.4) and average 3-point field goals (1.3) and third in points per game (7.4).

Jones transferred to Cal State San Marcos after not playing the 2016-17 season at Idaho State. She played in 57 games at Idaho State as a freshman and sophomore, averaging 7.6 minutes per game. Jones led the Bengals in 3-point field goal percentage (40.4) in 2015-16. Her top highlight at Idaho State came in the 2016 Big Sky Tournament in Reno, Nev. She hit a game-winning buzzer-beater in the semifinals, giving ISU a 52-50 win over top-seeded Montana State.

Jones played in four games against Idaho while at Idaho State.

Rising sophomore Allison Kirby, from Timberlake High, started all 33 games at the point last season for Idaho.
