James Richard ‘Dick’ Rogers, 85
James Richard “Dick” Rogers, age 85, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, died on June 13, 2018. Dick was born on Nov. 13, 1932, in Moscow, Idaho; the son of Bill and Shorty Rogers. A longtime resident of Moscow, he graduated from Moscow High School.
Dick graduated from the University of Idaho with undergraduate and advanced degrees in education. At the University of Idaho, he met his wife, Dolores, and they were married on June 12, 1954. They lived in Moscow for more than 40 years, where he was owner of Rogers’ Ice Cream. He later was a teacher and business manager for the Moscow School District and the North Idaho district manager for the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho. Dick served in the Idaho National Guard for more than 20 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was a lifelong Boy Scout, achieving the honor of Eagle Scout, and attended the sixth World Scout Jamboree in 1947 at Maisson, France.
Dick enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild, and cheering for his favorite University of Idaho sports teams.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Rogers, of Coeur d’Alene; his three children, Carly and husband, Ray of Weston, Wis., and their children, Tim and Matt; Kim of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and her daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Garren; Rich and his wife, Debi of Malvern, Pa., and their children, Brad, Brooke, Annie and John; great-grandson, Lucas; his sisters Patsy Mosman and Sandra Ingebritsen and their families.
Remembrances may be made to the Dick and Dolores Rogers Family Foundation, through the Idaho Community Foundation, 210 W. State St., Boise, ID 83702. The Dick and Dolores Rogers Family Foundation supports Dick’s most cherished institutions, the University of Idaho and Moscow School District.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 501 E. Wallace Ave., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83814.
