RULING: Blatant injustice
I read in shock and disbelief of yet another abuser getting away with little to no punishment. The story appeared in The Press on June 27, “Post Falls man sentenced on assault.”
Reading past the misleading title, one learns that the man beat his girlfriend with a piece of 2-by-6 lumber, grabbed the woman who was trying to leave with their children, and beat her head and face with the wood. He dragged her out of the house with the children following and then threatened neighbors with a knife when they tried to help. Clearly this was not the first time he beat her as she was trying to leave him during this latest beating. Worst of all, he beat her in front of the children, also most likely not the first time.
Abuse is most always taught at home; a terrible addition to the initial trauma, also leading to drug and alcohol abuse and other issues in the victims. And what did Judge Wayman do? State that the impact on domestic abuse is long lasting, but then gave this evil man only a rider! The acts hold up to a 10-year sentence. Wayman gave him two with a rider for treatment.
This “judge” has a long history of refusing to prosecute male abusers. Look up his case history. Then decided if this is how we want our local family courts, our mothers and children treated.
