Pint-sized patriots on parade

It was a star-spangled Tuesday morning in downtown Coeur d’Alene.

The annual Kids Parade, sponsored by the city of Coeur d’Alene Recreation Department, is a longstanding tradition on the eve of the Fourth of July.

This year’s turnout was one of the biggest in the event’s history, said Paula Austin, recreation superintendent.

The parade attracted roughly 1,500 young, patriotic participants who marched along Sherman Avenue while creatively decked out in red, white and blue.

Participants were judged in several categories.

Here is the list of winners provided by the Recreation Department:

Best Theme

- First place — Parker, Carli and Cassie Chaffin; Blake, Kylie and Mason Anderson; Luca and Marco Pierantoni; and Ryker Stevens for “All THE THINGS we love about the CdAT.”

- Second place — Daisy and Conan Tapia; Reggie Moretz; James Harrington; MyKinzie Cummings, Porter O’berry and John Morgan Cornish for “Rolling Cat in the Hat.”

- Third place — Max and Addy Jasmin and Lucia Rosenblum for “The Grinch Stole Christmas and Cindy Loo Who.”

Costumes

- First Place — Dash and Kingston Willoughby; Avery and Braxton Meyer; and Mackenzie Poole in “Thing 1 and Thing 2 with 1 Fish, 2 Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.”

- Second Place — Bentley and Carter Knoll in “The Lorax.”

- Third Place — Kazlynn Dundas in “Maizy Head Daizy and Cindy Loo Who.”

Floats

- First Place — Anna Graupman; Shannon and Tristan Riplinger; Ayla and Branson McAlister; David and Laurel Maiani; Acadian Suenkel; and Poppy Hegsted for “The Thingamajigger.”

- Second Place — Maverick, Austin and Siena Schindelbeck; Ward and Windslow King; Stein and Loic Berk; Kambry Schacher for “Grinch - Christmas in July.”

- Third Place — Ellie Hunt, Jolie Hunt, Bonnie Hunt, and Kenzlie and Kruz Gerig for “Go-Dogs-Go!”

Most Patriotic

- First Place — Kiera, Kimber and Kinzlee Ellison and Hailey Post for their patriotically decorated golf cart titled “We the People.”

- Second Place — Maggie’s child and her wagon.

- Third Place — Liam and Kit in their decorated kayak.
