Ready for yet another fantastic fest

| August 3, 2018 1:00 AM

There can’t be a better way to ring in the last month of summer. And if the weather gods’ promise holds true, the next three days will be nothing short of glorious.

For half a century, Art on the Green has established itself as the biggest and best arts festival around. That it is put on by an army of volunteers makes its magnificence all the more impressive.

Art on the Green throughout the North Idaho College campus; Street Fair along Sherman Avenue; and the centerpiece in City Park, Taste of Coeur d’Alene, combine three aesthetic, adventurous and appetizing venues for summertime fun. We’d like to put a spotlight on Taste of the Coeur d’Alene and its miracle makers, the Panhandle Kiwanis Club of Coeur d’Alene.

Taste of Coeur d’Alene is the vital annual fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club, whose impact on youth programs is tremendous. In fact, Kiwanis is the largest youth service program provider on the planet. When you patronize the artisans in City Park this weekend, sip an ice-cold beverage and enjoy the fabulous entertainment there, you’re also doing a lot of good for youngsters in our community.

As Kiwanian and college football referee Roger Stewart might say, it takes the whole team to pull off a big three-day show like Taste of Coeur d’Alene. But when you give the ball to guys like Dave Eubanks and Kent Setty, Stewart says, good things happen.

“Dave has been instrumental in upgrading the Taste of Coeur d’Alene into a very successful event,” Roger told The Press. “Dave was very active in improving the entertainment content for the show, along with Cris Lucas of The Rub, a fantastic local band.

“Kent Setty is the chairman of the Taste event this year. He has worked tirelessly on setting up the registration and vendor relations part of the show and organized the work-flows for the various committees.”

And of course there’s Roger Stewart himself, who is always happy to do a lot of the heavy lifting without being recognized. Sorry, Roger, but you’re one of the key players, too, so take a bow before you dive into more hard work ahead.
