Can chiropractic help with allergies?

| April 12, 2018 5:26 PM

Have you been wondering if chiropractic can help with your allergies or asthma? Many of my patients tell me all the time that they notice less allergies and the associated symptoms while under chiropractic care.

The beneficial effects of chiropractic adjustments on the nervous system are well documented. It’s not surprising at all that many chiropractic patients report a reduction of allergy symptoms when treated regularly. The funny thing is, chiropractors don’t actually treat allergies!

Chiropractic adjustments remove interference in the nervous system, bringing balance and harmony to the body. Adjustments provide that same balance to the immune system as well. A healthy functioning immune system responds properly to allergens in the environment, thus keeping us healthy. Aligning the spine can unleash the power of the immune system!

The deadly flu epidemic of 1918 is where chiropractic was first linked to improved immune function. Patients under chiropractic care fared better than those not under care.

One of the most important studies on immune function was performed by Dr. Ronald Pero, Ph.D., Chief of Cancer Prevention Research at New York’s Preventive Medicine Institute, and professor of medicine at New York University.

He compared people under chiropractic care for five years or more to the general population and those with serious diseases like cancer. The chiropractic patients were found to have a 200 percent greater immune competence than those people who had not received chiropractic care, and they had 400 percent greater immune competence than those people with cancer and other serious diseases. The immune system superiority of those under chiropractic care did not appear to diminish with age.

Dr. Pero stated, “when applied in a clinical framework, I have never seen a group other than this chiropractic group to experience a 200 percent increase over the normal patients. Therefore, it is so dramatically important. We have never seen such a positive improvement in a group.”

Life Chiropractic University produced an incredible study in 1994. The researchers took a group of HIV positive patients and performed chiropractic adjustments over a six-month period. The researchers found that the “patients that were adjusted had a forty-eight percent (48 percent) increase in the number CD4 cells (an important immune system component).” The blood work was taken by the patients’ primary care physician, where they were under medical supervision for the condition. The control group (the patients that were not adjusted) experienced a 7.69 percent decrease in CD4 cell counts over the same period.

Researchers are confirming what chiropractors and chiropractic patients have known for decades. Removing pressure from the spinal nerves and brain stem allows the immune system to function as it was designed. Any person, adult or child, who suffers with immune system issues would benefit from having their spine evaluated.

Our immune system plays a vital role in keeping us alive. Natural immunity starts while you are still in your mother’s womb, and keeps developing throughout life. One of the best tools for maximizing your immune system is chiropractic care.

If you suffer allergies, consider chiropractic as one of your potential options.
