Charmaine Powell

Peterson, 51

Charmaine Marie Peterson, of Hayden, died Dec. 27, 2016, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. She was born on Jan. 24, 1965, in Coeur d'Alene to Dennis and Maria Brown Powell.

Charmaine grew up in Post Falls, graduating from Post Falls High School in 1983 and attending North Idaho College. She worked as meeting and event coordinator at The Coeur d'Alene Resort when it opened in 1986 and later as scheduler at Coeur d'Alene Pediatrics. Charmaine married Bill Peterson on May 14, 1988, in Coeur d'Alene and they have three children, Haley, Bryson and Griffin. Charmaine's family and friends were her world and she had a heart for serving others. She was a self-described professional junker, enjoying buying, selling and repurposing thrift store finds. Charmaine loved to travel and she and Bill enjoyed taking their first cruise to the Caribbean in May.

As the cancer returned and the treatments began to take a toll, Charmaine faced the challenge with a grace and strength that was an example and inspiration to all around her.

She is survived by husband, Bill Peterson; children Griffin, at the family home in Hayden, Haley Peterson of Coeur d'Alene and Bryson of Post Falls; mother Maria Dawson of Post Falls; brother Ron Meredith of Post Falls; and sisters Shauney Martin of Eatonville, Wash., and Melody Melton of Dalton Gardens.
