Sweet Lou's opens Monday in Parkside

Sweet Lou’s Restaurant and Tap House opens Monday in the Parkside Building at 601 Front Ave. downtown. The 3,600-square-foot place seats 200 with indoor and heated patio tables that look at McEuen Park, Tubbs Hill and Lake Cd’A. It housed The Grill From Ipanema before it moved to Riverstone.

Named for owners’ Chad and Meggie Foust’s son Lou and expanding from their 6-year-old place in Ponderay, it offers American fare entrees with fresh ingredients and creative twists.

Included are 10 burgers, steaks, salmon, pork and ribs (including bison ribs), smoked bakes beans, horseradish mashed potatoes, hand-battered onion rings, desserts and a kids’ menu. Happy hour 4-6 p.m. daily offers beer, wine and appetizer specials, and smoked prime rib is the dinner special Fridays and Saturdays.

Smokin’ Mike’s opens in Stateline Village

A huge menu greets customers at Smokin’ Mike’s Restaurant now open next to the El Patio Bar at 6902 W. Seltice Way in Stateline Village.

Owners Mike and Gina Bowen offer pulled pork, tri-tip, chicken, spaghetti, burritos, street tacos, a taco bar, chili, chili dogs, fettuccine alfredo, corn (in season), salads, twice-baked potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw, Mexican rice, pastas, wings, platters, salsas, breads, dips and spreads. Whew!

Granny’s Pantry reopens in Rathdrum

Lunch and dinner are offered at Granny’s Pantry at 14683 W. Highway 53 in Rathdrum. Larry and Montie Readel reopened the restaurant after an 18-month closure.

The menu includes burgers, patty melts, sandwiches and dinner entrees. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Phone 687-0881.

According to a spy, Rathdrum has more happening with Breakfast Nook on Highway 53, a Mexican restaurant on Main Street and two new auto repair places.

Corby’s opens on Seltice Way

A major array of beverages, a huge-screen sports TV, pool, darts and free popcorn are offered at Corby’s — now open in the former Goodtimes Tavern building at 2828 W. Seltice Way, Post Falls.

Owners Dave and Colleen Corbeill may be adding bar food and stress that the place is non-smoking. He taught high school economics and drivers’ education for 33 years.

Hours are 1 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to closing Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The remodeled interior seats 50. Phone 773-7002.

Northwest Artists opens in Silver Lake Mall

Northwest Artists opened Black Friday in the Silver Lake Mall across from the food court, with a total of 18 local artists and crafters combining to create the Northwest Artists Gift Boutique. The store consists of handmade items ranging from huckleberry jams to handcrafted furniture, glasswork, eclectic wind chimes, birdhouses, paintings of area history and much more. The store will be open through Christmas.

Now for the Tidbits

- Watch for Kitchen CDA in the Silver Lake Mall food court and Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant to be where Skippers was off Highway 95 next to Silver Lake Mall (which Skippers is now inside). A Cash & Carry store will be off Appleway, Cosmic Cowboy Grill will be at Highway 95 and Haycraft Ave., Gross Donuts where Freedom Burrito was off Highway 95, an office of Waddell & Reed at 320 E. Neider and Advance Auto Parts and The Beauty Lounge on Sunset Avenue.

- In Hayden watch for Young Chefs’ Academy in Prairie Shopping Center, a new eatery (Asian?) where Kynrede Cafe was and a gas station-convenience store in the southwest corner of Highway 95 and Lancaster.

- A major development called The Crossroads is proposed for Athol. Watch for details. We anticipate a Super 1, a bank, coffee shop, a motel, a gas station-convenience store, a restaurant and others.

- Downtown — Watch for Harvard Gallery at 321 E. Front, Rustic Restaurant at 309 Sherman (next to Clark’s Jewelry), Community First Bank at 504 Sherman and STCU at 401 Front.

- We also have Advanced Health Care and Schini Family Dentistry building new places in Riverstone. Sweeto Burrito is building near Winco, and Express Employment Professionals will move into the Winco (Crossroads) complex. The Shilo Inn on Appleway will become a Comfort Suites with a major remodel.

- New places in Post Falls will be Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, Green & Grounds Coffee Shop, Cricket Wireless, Silverlake Automotive and The Lean Bean.

- New places coming to the revised Post Falls Outlet Mall include Riverstone Apparel, Black-Ops Self Defense, My Big Fat Greek Deli, a comic book store and a coffee espresso store.

- Use “blond” as a male noun and any-sex adjective (She had blond hair). Blonde is a female noun.

- Pharmacist: A helper on a farm.
