More turkeys needed for food bank

Thanksgiving is around the corner and Community Action Partnership Food Bank in Coeur d'Alene is stepping up to help make the holiday a special time for everyone.

Today is the final day to help while buying groceries at Super 1 Food stores in Coeur d’Alene and Hayden.

The Thanksgiving dinner food drive aims to help more than 1,500 families.

Food bank manager Nicol Barnes said they needs to bring in 700 turkeys to meet their goal, or the money to purchase them, which is about $14,000 worth of meat.

"Right now, what we really need is turkeys or money to purchase turkeys," Barnes said. "We've been able to round up all the other things we need for the dinners."

Evalyn Adams, a former Kootenai County Commissioner, has helped out with the drive and wants everyone to have a memorable Thanksgiving.

"I feel it's so important for families to have a Thanksgiving dinner," Adams said. "We need to remember the less fortunate.

"We're sure looking forward to getting donations. I'd like to challenge my friends to mail a donation to the food bank."

Donations of turkeys, non-perishable food items and monetary contributions will be accepted anytime and can be to taken to the food bank.

Checks can be mailed to Thanksgiving Dinner, Community Action Partnership, 4144 W. Industrial Loop, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho 83815, and a receipt will be mailed back for tax purposes.
