annual NIC golf
tournament
Signups are now being accepted for the North Idaho College Hague Memorial Cardinal Classic golf tournament.
The tournament name has been changed this year to honor Denny Hague, who passed away in 2015. It was previously called the “Scott” Hague tournament to honor NIC alumnus and community supporter Scott Hague who died as a result of cancer in March 2005.
The four-person scramble tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Friday, June 3 at the Avondale Golf and Tennis Club in Hayden. The registration fee of $100 per player or $375 per team includes golf, cart rental, NIC gift and dinner from Outback Steakhouse. Holes are also available for sponsorship for $50 and corporate team/hole sponsorships are available for $425.
There is a 32-team limit.

Courtney signs with
Quinnipac University
North Idaho College softball player Lexi Courtney signed a letter of commitment to play at Division I Quinnipac University of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, the school announced.
Courtney, of Scappoose, Ore., played shortstop in 2016 and catcher in 2015 for NIC. In 2016, she had a .365 batting average with 46 hits, 13 doubles, five home runs, 29 runs batted in and a .908 fielding percentage. In 2015, she had a .302 batting average with 26 hits, eight doubles, five home runs, 28 RBIs and a .994 fielding percentage.
Courtney was the school’s 2016 Female Academic Athlete of the Year and a 2015 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American scholar athlete.
“I am excited and nervous my journey to the east coast, but I’ve always dreamed of playing Division I softball,” Courtney said.

Winners of the North Idaho College athletics awards were announced during the school’s annual Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Banquet, held in May.
Nominations for Scholar Athlete and Athlete of the Year are selected from each team and winners are chosen by the athletics department administration and coaches. Recognition is also given to Faculty and Staff Member of the Year and Booster Club Members of the Year.
Winners were:
Scholar Athlete of the Year — women: Maci Benedict, women’s basketball, 4.0 grade point average; men: Tony Quesnell, soccer, 3.9 GPA.
Athlete of the Year — women: Nicole Miller, golf; men: Braian Angola-Rodas, men’s basketball; Dajour Reece, wrestling.
Team of the Year — Men’s basketball.
Booster Club Member of the Year — Dick and Sandy Powell, Northwest Specialty Hospital.
Floyd Rosenlund Award (Staff Member of the Year) — Lynn Hill, marketing and communications department, administrative assistant.
Warren “Squirt” Keating Faculty Member of the Year — Audry Bourne, communications instructor and assistant division chair.
Ace Walden Award (Team GPA of 3.0 or better) — women’s basketball (3.47), women’s soccer (3.23), softball (3.09).
