Washington softball

Stangel, a junior infielder/pitcher from Lake City High in Coeur d’Alene, went 2 for 3 with four RBIs as the 12th ranked Huskies (39-13) beat Minnesota 15-7 in an NCAA Seattle Regional championship game on Sunday in front of 1,152 at the Husky Softball Stadium in Seattle. Washington will travel to Alabama to face the Crimson Tide for the second straight season for a berth in the Women’s College World Series starting on Friday. It is the Huskies’ 10th Super Regional appearance.

Logan Feasline

Air Force Academy track and field

Logan Feasline, a freshman from St. Maries High, finished sixth in the discus with a mark of 169 feet, 9 inches at the Mountain West Conference on May 14 in Clovis, Calif. Air Force won its third men’s title in five years during the meet.

Lindsie Scholwinski

Southeastern softball

Scholwinski, a junior from Coeur d’Alene High, was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-East Region team. Scholwinski leads the NAIA in innings pitched with 255, and is second in the country with 31 wins. Her 1.29 earned run average is 13th in the nation. Southeastern opens the NAIA World Series on Friday against St. Gregory’s in its first appearance in the World Series, to be held in Sioux City, Iowa.

Leanne Asper

Eastern Washington track and field

Asper, a junior from Lake City High, finished fourth in the prelims of the women’s 400 meter hurdles to advance to the finals of the Big Sky Championships on May 14 in Greeley, Colo., with a personal best of 1 minute, 1.29 seconds. She finished fifth in the finals in 1:02.30, and is ranked fifth in the conference in the event.

Sean Sutton

Seattle baseball

Sutton, a sophomore from Coeur d’Alene High, was named to the Western Athletic Conference first team, the conference announced on Tuesday. Sutton started 52 of 54 games for the Redhawks this season (35-19), batting 65 for 190 (.342) with 13 doubles and 31 runs batted in. Sutton was second on the team in batting this season. Seattle opens the conference tournament tonight at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.

Sydnie Malloy

Southeastern softball

Malloy, a junior infielder from Timberlake High in Spirit Lake, has started all 56 games for the Fire (42-14), batting .326 (57 for 175) with 10 doubles and 16 stolen bases.

Katie Rowe

College of Idaho softball

Rowe, a senior shortstop from Lake City High, was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region second team. It is her second consecutive time being named to the second team. Rowe finished the season hitting .387 (41 for 106) with three home runs and 16 RBIs for the Yotes.

Kinsey Gomez

Idaho track and field

Gomez, a senior from Coeur d’Alene High, advanced to the first round of the NCAA West Regionals in Lawrence, Kan., and will compete in the 10,000-meter run. She did not compete in the event at the Big Sky Championships, but ran the fastest time in the conference at 33:23.59. The time is a career-best, and the fastest in school history, shattering a 35-year old record. Gomez is ranked ninth in the field.

Stephanie Wright

Community Colleges of Spokane

track and field

Wright, a freshman from Lake City High, finished second in pole vault with a height of 12-2 1/2 in the Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on May 23-24 in Gresham, Ore., breaking the school record for the second time this season. The CCS women’s team went on to win the team championship.
