FOOTBALL

YMCA Grid Kids spring league: The eighth-grade Post Falls Trojans defeated Central Valley of Spokane Valley 49-0. Derek Pearse threw for 230 yards and 4 TD passes in the first half. Tommy Madill hauled in 3 TD receptions and added another on the ground. Austin Schmidt pitched in with a 49-yard TD reception and a 15-yard TD run. Leading rushers for Post Falls were Eli Gondo, Schmidt and Jayden Ferris. The Post Falls defense pitched a shutout, allowing only 60 net yards for the game. Leading tacklers were Justin Gies, Jake Burton, Gage Benefield and Caleb Albert. Madill and Ferris both had interceptions for Post Falls.

On Monday, Post Falls defeated Shadle Park 34-12. Leading tacklers for the Trojan defense were Caleb Albert and Gage Benefield. Tristan Sanchez forced a fumble, Justin Gies had a fumble recovery and Jacob Burton added an interception. For the Trojan offense, Derek Pearse threw for more than 270 yards and had 5 TD passes. Grant Jones had TD receptions of 17, 22, 68 and 48 yards on his way to 184 total receving yards and Tommy Madill had the other TD reception for the Trojans. The ground game was led by Eli Gondo with 59 yards.

WRESTLING

Lovett, Huber “crowned”: Team Real Life wrestlers traveled to Idaho Falls for the Idaho state Greco-Roman championships on May 6 and the Idaho state freestyle championships on May 7. Team Real Life had two Triple Crown winners this year. A Triple Crown winner is a wrestler who wins all three wrestling styles in a given wrestling season (folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle). This year’s Team Real Life Triple Crown winners are Ridge Lovett and Byson Huber. Ridge and Byson, having won at the state folkstyle tournament in the winter in Twin Falls, completed their triple crowns by winning the final two legs in Idaho Falls.

VOLLEYBALL

VIP Juniors 16: The VIP Juniors 16, comprised of 10 girls from eight schools, were champions of the HUB Sports Center Invitational U16-U18’s on Sunday. The next tournament is the Emerald City Classic at the University of Washington May 28-30, followed by the 2016 USA Volleyball Junior Nationals in Indianapolis, June 29-July 3.

Coeur d’Alene Sting 06-07 under-9 Messi boys: The Sting Messi won the U9 bracket at the recent Bill Eisenwinter Hot Shot Tournament.

On May 6, the Sting Messi beat the Academy 7-1. Maddox Le scored two goals, and Jacob Molina, Philip Du, Rylie Brandt, Ben Hannigan-Luther and Cannon Steckman each scored once.

On May 7, the Sting Messi beat the Sandpoint Strikers 4-2. Jacob Molina, Philip Du, Maddox Le and David Espinoza each scored once for the Sting.

In the semifinals on May 8, the Sting Messi beat Moscow United 5-2. Jacob Molina scored a hat trick for the Sting, and Philip Du and Maddox Le each scored once.

In the championship game later that day, the Sting Messi beat the Sting Ronaldo 5-2. Philip Du scored two goals for the Sting Messi, and Ben Hannigan-Luther, Ryder Deming and Maddox Le each scored once.

Sting girls 03-04 black: The Sting won 6-0 on May 14. Ellie Morrisroe scored a hat trick, with assists from McKenna Harris and Shelbie Shriner. Lainey Hall scored once, with an assist from Justine Trevino. Zoe Gerhart also scored once, and MacKenzie Goings had four saves in the shutout in goal.

Sting U14 boys: The Sting Valencia beat Moscow United 9-0 on Saturday. Goals were scored by Mckie Gregory, Kyler Sorensen (2), Josh Brisendine, Cameron Dance (2), Jacob Janzen (2) and Cameron Calabretto, with assists by Cameron Dance (2), Drake Prohaska, Carter Gordon and Mckie Gregory.

On Sunday morning, the Sting Valencia beat FC Spokane Triplett 7-2. Sting goals were scored by Jacob Janzen (3), Kyler Sorensen, Garrett Noordam, Mckie Gregory and Cameron Calabretto, with an assist by Jacob Janzen.

On Sunday afternoon, the Sting Valencia beat Three Rivers B01 6-0. Goals were scored by Jacob Janzen, Kyler Sorensen (2), Josh Brisendine (2) and Mckie Gregory, with assists by McKie Gregory, Jared Hoffman and Jacob Janzen. Jacob Overoye had the shutout in goal.

The Academy U13 boys: On Friday the Cads beat the Breakers 10-0. Ethan Lawson had 2 goals, Cody Carvajal had 2 goals, Aiden Junttila had 3 goals, Alex Moate had 1 goal, Brayson Harrington had 1 goal, and Aidan O’Halloran had 1 goal.

Saturday the Cads beat Cobra Green 3-0. Cody Carvajal had 2 goals and Aiden Junttila had 1 goal.

Sunday the Cads lost 4-3 to Cobra FC. Ethan Lawson, Brayson Harrington and Devin Claflin each scored once for the Cads in their season finale.

The Cads came in second in the Puget Sound Premiere League, Inland Northwest Copa Division 1 with a total of 51 goals scored and only 7 goals allowed.

Sting U9 boys: On May 14 the Sting boys 06-07 Ronaldo/Dempsey defeated FC Spokane B06 Gold-Koschalk 8-2. Connor Mongan had 3 goals for the Sting, Jacob Molina 2 goals, Maddox Le 2 goals, Kai Delio 1 goal.

On May 15 the Sting Boys 06-07 Ronaldo/Dempsey defeated Idaho Thunder FC U9B Smith 10-2 Jacob Molina had 3 goals for the Sting, Kai Delio 2 goals, Max Hosfeld 2 goals, Maddox Le 1 goal, Chief Natatqn Allen 1 goal, Connor Mongan 1 goal.

Sting U17 boys: The Sting defeated the Idaho Thunder 3-0 in Northwest League play. Riley Glover, Amos Crossingham and Charlie Crane all contributed goals for the Sting.

Sting 06-07 U9 girls Hamm: The Sting finished up spring play last weekend.

On Saturday the Sting beat the Spokane Foxes Mayhem 8-0. Lucy Simpson had 3 goals, Devon Pirwitz had 2 goals, Paisley Goings had 1 goal, and Rachel Corette had 2 goals.

On Sunday the Sting beat The Academy U8/U9 team 3-1. Paisley Goings had 1 goal for the Sting, Devon Pirwitz had 1 goal, and Rachel Corette had 1 goal with an assist from Natalie Thompson.

Sting U12 girls U12 Gold: The Sting hosted the Cascade FC G03 squad from Seattle at Canfield Middle School on Saturday to wind up PSPL Classic 1 league play, and won 4-0 to clinch the league championship. Goals were scored by Amber Aittama (3) and Holly Hudson. Hudson had an assist, as did Olivia Wyatt. Danika Nowak had the shutout as keeper.

Sting U13 girls: The Sting beat the Dragons FC G02 last weekend 2-1. Sting goals were scored by Alexi Wilson and Cailyn Garza (assisted by Chloe Biediger).

Sting U13 boys Arsenal: The Sting shut out FC Spokane 2-0 at Canfield on Saturday. Cooper Proctor and Jackson Henkle each scored goals and Rylan Carter and Cooper Proctor had assists, and Martin Bene notched the shutout in goal.

On Sunday, the Sting beat the Idaho Thunder 7-2 at Canfield. Chris Swider scored three goals for the Sting, Jackson Henkle scored twice and Ronan Malaghan and Cooper Proctor each scored once. Assists were made by Daniel Rojas, Rylan Carter, Cooper Proctor, Chris Swider and Michael Schlotthauer.

Sting U10 Arsenal girls: The Sting played 3 matches over the weekend.

On Saturday morning, the Sting beat FC Spokane U10 Gold Bly 7-0. Ari Rumpler had 3 goals. Haidyn Jonas had 2 goals and 2 assists. Connor Jump had 2 goals and 3 assists. Boston Spear had 1 assist. Jensen Elliott and Parker Anderson teamed in goal for the shutout.

In their second match on Saturday, the Sting beat Moscow United 6-3. Connor Jump had 2 goals and 2 assists to lead the Sting. Jensen Elliott, Parker Anderson, Gavin Samayoa and Boston Spear each had 1 goal. Max Entzi and Stetson Gilbert each had 1 assist. Connor Jump, Gavin Schoener and Jensen Elliott teamed in goal.

On Sunday, Sting won their final PSPL match against FC Spokane U10 Gold Valdez 8-4. Haidyn Jonas led Sting with 5 goals. Trenton Anderson and Ari Rumpler each had 1 goal. Connor Jump had 1 goal and 6 assists. Boston Spear added 1 assist. Gavin Schoener and Parker Anderson teamed in goal for the win. Sting U10 Arsenal finished in second place of the PSPL Spokane U10 Division 1.

Sting boys U11 Yellow 04-05: The Sting went 3-0 the first day of the Bill Eisenwinter Hot Shot Tournament, advancing them to the semifinals before falling.

The Sting beat Sandpoint 4-2. Byron Anderson scored two goals for the Sting, and Caden Thompson and Blaine Leonard each scored once.

The Sting defeated Flathead 2-1, on goals by Chris Mongan and Alexander Nipp.

The Sting defeated Lakeland 9-0. Byron Anderson and Cooper Prohaska each scored two goals, and Chet Hanna, Blaine Leonard, Chris Mongan and pick-up players Michael and Jared each scored once.

In the semifinals, the Sting fell to VYSA 2-0.

More recently, the Sting split a pair of games. The Sting defeated Lakeland 5-1, as Cooper Prohaska scored a hat trick, and Alexander Nipp Byron Anderson each scored once.

The Sting fell to FC Dunbar 3-1. The Sting goal was scored by Byron Anderson.
