Disability Action Center invites public to grand opening

POST FALLS — The grand opening of the new Disability Action Center NW Post Falls office will be held May 19 at 4:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting conducted by Post Falls Chamber of Commerce at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to tour the new office, enjoy free hot dogs, snacks, and music and learn more about how Disability Action Center serves the community. Free swag to the first 20 guests. The building was purchased last winter and the remodel has been under construction since March.

Disability Action Center NW works for changes at the community, state, and national levels to remove physical, communication, and attitude barriers for people with disabilities. Their goal is gain community support for independence, include people with disabilities in community life, remove workplace barriers and create or find funding to remove barriers.

As part of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Disability Action Center NW will showcase assistive technology at the open house.

“Often the technology can make the difference for a person with a disability to remain independent” said Independent Living Specialist Mellowdee Brooks, who will be demonstrating a high tech communication device and the accessible voting machine.

DAC will also be featuring community partners they work with within the community to provide assistance to people with disabilities and their families. The new DAC office is located at 3726 E. Mullan Ave. in Post Falls.
