MOM: To our hero

| May 8, 2016 9:00 PM

Imagine for a moment a home full of 10 contentedly happy children, always secure in the knowledge that Mom loved each one unconditionally and was available around the clock.

Imagine a home where Mom’s goodness flowed into every homemade meal. This Mom also read aloud to her children and taught important life lessons through good literature. At one point or another, all 10 were homeschooled.

These 10 children all grew up to be confident, loving and successful adults. I know this because I am proud to be the second oldest of this family. It has been said that “in order to be in our children’s lives tomorrow, we must be in their lives today.” How true!

Mom sacrificed many personal necessities in order for us to have the “extras” which is no small accomplishment in a large family. She gave her talents, her Catholic Faith, her wisdom, her heart to all of us, and continues to give today to her grandchildren. Isn’t it a wonder that a mother’s love multiplies as her family grows, rather than it be divided?

This May marks the birth of my parents’ 55th grandchild. Being generous and open to life in their marriage has ensured for us the incredible blessings of large families.

You are our hero, Mom, every day, not just once a year on Mother’s Day!
