Claude Richard 'Barney' Barnes Jr., 93
Richard, 93, passed away Feb. 25, 2016. He was born on Jan. 6, 1923, to Claude and Elena Amanda (Larson) Barnes.
A graduate of Coeur d’Alene High in 1940, he attended the University of Idaho before serving in the Navy in World War II. After receiving his B.S. in metallurgical engineering from Montana School of Mines, he worked 22 years with Kaiser Aluminum in Spokane and around the world. He later purchased the Shoreline Motel in Port Orford, managed property in the Bend/Redmond area of Oregon and in retirement became a part-time rental car associate.
Richard enjoyed pinochle at the senior center in Puyallup, Wash. But his true passion was his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by wife Alda Marie (Batson). He is survived by his son, Carter (Marcia) of Puyallup; daughter Claudia (Jeff) Pierson of Alaska; five grandchildren; 7.5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016, at the Pines Cemetery, 1402 Pines Road, Spokane, Wash. A memorial gathering will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the Ft.
