Shirley Ann Smalley, 79
Shirley passed away on Feb. 24, 2016, at Ivy Court. Born on May 1, 1936, to Conrad and Eunice Brandt (Hanson) in Minnesota.
She moved with her parents to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1946. She attended schools in Coeur d’Alene, graduating in 1954. She went to North Idaho College for one year after high school. She married DeWayne Smalley in 1955 and together they had two sons and a daughter. Shirley and DeWayne divorced in 1989 and she didn’t remarry.
Shirley had some health conditions that made her miserable but she never complained and never spoke a bad word about anyone. When people would ask her how she feels, her response was “vertical and vocal it’s a good day.” She had humor until the end.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Thurman Bosley.
She is survived by her sons, Joe (Brandy) of Silverdale, Wash., and Steve of Post Falls, Idaho; and daughter Connie Smalley of Coeur d’Alene. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Adam Kirk (Maggie) of Poulsbo, Wash., Dustin Kirk of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Toni Roman (Mark) of Post Falls, Elizabeth Petersen (Nik) of Hayden, Idaho, and Kenneth Smalley of Silverdale; and by 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Homes, Coeur d’Alene, is entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Shirley’s online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
