Pauline (Polly) Dowell Judd Newberry
February 12, 1929 — February 13, 2016
Polly was born to William & Nellie (Gibson) Dowell in Abernathy, Texas. She married Ray Green at age 17 and moved to Missoula, Montana.
She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1950 and graduated from Kanes Beauty School. She married James Judd, owner of the Victory Inn. James had two sons (Jimmy 13 & Gary 4) whom she raised as her own.
She was owner of the Honey Comb Beauty Shop on 8th & Mullan in Coeur d’Alene for 15 yrs. She married Edwin Newberry and moved to Marysville, WA. They moved several times with his job to Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Saudia Arabia and retired in Hope, ldaho where they owned and operated the Lake Aire Motel. For years she served as the president of the Hope, Clark Fort, Trestle Creek Chamber of Commerce.
Polly moved back to Coeur d’Alene in the 1990’s and continued doing hair for shut-ins for 15 years. She is remembered most for her desire to help others, and the love she showed her family and friends.
She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Daughters of the Nile, Coeur d’Alene Ladies 9 Hole Golf, Rambling Rovers, 3 C’s, and volunteered for Heart & Cancer drives and Art on the Green. Her favorite hobbies were golfing, painting, bowling, fishing, dancing, traveling and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her son Jimmy Judd, husband Ed Newberry, sister Auvrie Dennis, brothers Belverd C. Dowell and Orben Dowell, and her parents William & Nellie Dowell, She is survived Kathy Judd, Gindy & Jim Johnson, Dennis & Glyn Dowell and 7 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind several special friends who loved and took care of her.
At her request no services will be held. Arrangements thru Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Donations to Hospice of North Idaho or Shriners Childrens’ Hospital would greatly be appreciated.
