Sandpoint tops Lakeland in OT
RATHDRUM — Davan Norris made 1 of 2 free throws with 3 seconds left to force overtime, then scored nine of his game-high 21 points in the extra four minutes as the Sandpoint Bulldogs beat the Lakeland Hawks 56-47 in the regular season and 4A Inland Empire League finale Thursday night at Hawk Court.
Norris hit a 3-pointer on the first possession of overtime, and hit 4 of 4 free throws as Sandpoint (6-14, 2-2 4A IEL) pulled away in OT.
Matt Curtis added 15 points for the Bulldogs.
Dylan Knight, Forest Zubaly and Andrew Knight each scored 11 points for Lakeland (9-12, 3-1). Dylan Knight had five assists, Zubaly eight rebounds.
The result didn’t change the matchups for next week’s 4A Region 1 tournament at North Idaho College. On Monday, Sandpoint plays Moscow (2-17) at 8 p.m. in a loser-out game. The winner plays Lakeland on Wednesday at 8 p.m. for the regional title and a trip to state. The loser moves to a state play-in game next Saturday.

“They were up 12 with 3 minutes,” Timberlake coach Tony Hanna said. “They came out and hit everything. It was one of the best shooting performances I’ve ever seen.
