TRUMP: Just say no

| February 17, 2016 8:00 PM

Can somebody explain to me why so many Republicans are supporting Trump? I get that he is not a politician, is anti-establishment, talks tough on illegal immigration, and speaks his mind. But is that it?

As a conservative Republican, I am deeply bothered that a third of the party seems ready to nominate such a flawed candidate. Leaving aside the fact he isn’t even remotely conservative, this man’s character is what I find so disturbing. He speaks loudly, but with little depth and reeking of narcissism. When confronted, he resorts to name-calling, facial contortions, and the petulant behavior of a child. Trump’s boorish antics in the debates have been uncomfortable to watch, yet he inexplicably remains on top in most polls!

For the past eight years conservatives have bemoaned the lack of integrity shown by the likes of Obama and Hillary. Is our party now going to nominate someone who is cut from the same cloth? What happened to demanding decency, honor, and civility from our leaders?

I realize that many in our party have fallen short of these ideals in the past, but are Republican voters not even going to try anymore? I personally support Rubio for his inspiring vision and strong character, but I do feel the other GOP candidates are decent people. Trump, on the other hand, is the person I hope my kids never become.

Think hard, Republicans, before making this man the face of our party. And God help America if he ever becomes president.
