Teen arrested in daycare lewd case
COEUR d'ALENE — A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly inappropriately touching an 8-year-old girl at a private daycare and the owner is being investigated for not reporting the allegation.
Based on the allegations, Coeur d'Alene Police Chief Lee White obtained a revocation of the daycare license of the in-home business at 3707 N. Belmont in Coeur d'Alene until further notice.
"The owner's name is not being released at this time because she has not been charged," said Christie Wood, a consultant for the police department.
The owner is a 42-year-old female.
Wood said the teen suspect's name is not being released due to him being a minor. She declined to say if he is related to the owner, citing the ongoing investigation.
Wood said she didn't immediately know how many children go to the daycare, which does not have a name.
"Detectives are currently trying to determine if there are other victims in this case," a police press release states.
The mother of the alleged victim told police her daughter was victimized on at least two occasions, including the latest alleged incident on Jan. 30.
The owner of the business was allegedly made aware of the first lewd incident in August 2015, according to police, and failed to report the alleged crime.
"Subsequent to this first incident, additional sex crimes were committed at this residence involving the same juvenile male suspect," the press release states.
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact police at 769-2291.
An investigation continues and more information will be released as it becomes available.
