Floyd E. Tietz, 83
Floyd E. Tietz, 83, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away Feb. 3, 2016, at Kootenai Health after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was born Oct. 2, 1932, in Plankinton, S.D., one of 15 children of Elmer and Myrtle Tietz.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1951. Floyd became an Instrument Mechanic working on the B-36 and was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base. While marching in the Lilac Parade in 1953, Floyd met the love of his life; a Coeur d’Alene gal by the name of Doris Spelgatti. The following year they were married on Aug. 14, 1954.
In 1955, Floyd received an honorable discharge from the Air Force. A short time later he began working in instrumentation for Kaiser Aluminum where he would build a 33-year career, retiring in 1988. Floyd was an avid bowler whom also enjoyed the outdoors with a love for fishing and camping. His most cherished times were days when family and friends would gather at the family’s St. Joe River property.
Floyd will be dearly missed by his surviving family members including his wife, Doris Tietz; son Ken Tietz; daughter Renee (Ted) Johnson; son John (Connie) Tietz; son Ron Tietz; grandchildren: Heather and Sam, Colin, Matt and Jill Tietz, and Desiree and Ellie Johnson; and great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Olivia West.
At Floyd’s request, no services will be held. A celebration of Floyd’s life will be held in the spring at the family property on the St. Joe River.
