LETTERS: Kids get it right

| February 5, 2016 8:00 PM

What a relief to read the letters submitted by teacher Diann Wardley, whose Lakes Magnet Middle School students are championing a human rights cause by studying the issue of child labor laws in the tobacco industry. In writing their concerns to the paper, they are raising a consciousness of those of us in the North who are unaware. We only know the migrant worker abuse here in the West.

A break in the unending political blah-blah-blah — I don’t foresee any southern Congressional reps addressing these issues as they rake in political contributions from the tobacco industry.

I wish every teacher pursued a cause at this age — maybe even Idahoans could be more compassionate and less negative and ultra-conservative.

Dyed in the wool Democrat and retired teacher.
