DALTON GARDENS — An Athol resident was arrested for DUI after allegedly rear-ending an Idaho State Police car on Highway 95 then attempting to flee the scene.

According to a press release, Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched on Tuesday around 6 p.m. to Prairie Avenue and Rude Street for a hit-and-run crash that involved an ISP trooper’s car.

Once on scene, they learned that the trooper was stopped in traffic at Highway 95 and Prairie Avenue, waiting for the traffic light when he was rear-ended by a dark-colored passenger car.

The suspect driver, Kyle M. Hodgson, 24, of Athol, then attempted to flee westbound on Prairie Avenue at a high rate of speed. After a short pursuit, the car yielded at Prairie Avenue and Rude Street.

Hodgson was detained without further incident until deputies arrived on scene, where he was arrested and charged with felony DUI, felony attempting to elude police, leaving the scene of an accident, and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use.

He is currently being held without bond pending his first appearance hearing.

According to the release, Hodgson refused medical assistance at the scene. The trooper said he was a little sore from the collision, but was also evaluated at the scene and cleared of any significant injuries.

Hodgson has two previous adult arrests in Kootenai County for obstructing a peace officer, probation violation, DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without privileges.
