PREP SOCCER: Roth sends Timberlake girls past Bonners

SPIRIT LAKE — Mauri Roth scored two unassisted goals as the Timberlake Tigers beat the Bonners Ferry 6-0 in an Intermountain League match on Tuesday.

“It was a good match for us to try some new things and different formations,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. “Bonners Ferry didn’t quit and they put up a fight through the end.”

Timberlake (3-1, 3-0 IML) travels to Priest River on Thursday.

Bonners Ferry is 0-3, 0-3.

COEUR d’ALENE — Havana Johnson had two goals and an assist and Tiana Cydell had two assists for the Timberwolves in a nonleague win against the Bears at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

Four others had goals for Lake City (3-0), which outshot Moscow 22-1.

“It’s great when you look at a linescore and the workload is spread out,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “From the front line, to the middle and the backline, it’s definitely what you want to see. We’ve focused on holding our opponents to limited chances on the frame, and our first challenge to do that is in the first league match at Post Falls.”

Lake City travels to Post Falls to open 5A Inland Empire League play on Thursday.

SANDPOINT — Rickie Colosimo scored in the first minute for the Trojans, but a frantic second half rally pushed the Bulldogs to the win at Pine Street Field.

“We just got outhustled in the second half,” Post Falls coach Steve Mills said. “They just wanted it more. They outpassed and outhustled us the entire second half.”

POST FALLS — McKie Gregory scored the equalizer in the 78th minute for the Trojans after Dawson Mulder gave the Bulldogs the lead six minutes earlier in a nonleague draw at Post Falls High.

“It was a good game,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. “Sandpoint is definitely a good team. Statistically, we controlled the flow and possession of the game. We created some good chances and doubled them on the shot count. They’re a good team and played a solid soccer match. For me, it was a great opportunity for our team and we put in a solid game against them and having the upper hand shows me we’re right where we need to be. It’s good for us to put together something against a solid team.”

Post Falls (1-0-2) opens 5A Inland Empire League play at Lake City on Thursday.

Sandpoint (2-2-1) hosts Stillwater Christian on Thursday.

SPIRIT LAKE — The Tigers and Badgers combined for 36 shots on goal in a scoreless draw in Intermountain League play.

“We had some chances and had a couple go off the post,” Timberlake coach Bert Bentley said. “We had our chances to win for sure, and Bonners had some great shots on us as well. It was the same battle we’re used to. This league is going to be a battle right up until the end.”

Timberlake (4-0-1, 1-0-1 IML) travels to Priest River on Thursday.

Bonners Ferry is 0-2-1, 0-1-1.
