Opera Cd'A Gala offers 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia' preview

Opera Coeur d’Alene will host its 2016 Opera Gala on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at a private home on the Spokane River. Tickets are $75 and attendees will meet the cast members of the upcoming Opera Coeur d’Alene production of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” (The Barber of Seville) and enjoy a live performance by members of the cast.

The fundraiser, which offers a live auction, raffle items and hors d’oeuvres, will benefit Opera Coeur d’Alene Programs including Opera-tunities, the arts education outreach program, and all other programs and events designed to instill an appreciation of opera.

Organized in 2000 by a group of opera lovers bent on bringing great artists and beautiful music to the Inland Northwest, Opera Coeur d’Alene began as Opera Plus! Offering Opera on the Lake, opera community education and a major operatic production each season.

In 2009 Opera Plus! became Opera Coeur d’Alene and with new leadership, Opera Coeur d’Alene continued to offer new and higher levels of concerts, productions and education to Kootenai County and beyond.

In 2012, Aaron St. Clair Nicholson took over as artistic and general director, quickly establishing a new trajectory for Opera Coeur d’Alene and its loyal supporters.

All productions for the 2016 season will be directed by Nicholson, a Metropolitan Opera artist who sang his debut at the New York City opera house under the artistic direction of famed tenor Plácido Domingo.

Opera Coeur d’Alene’s production of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” which will be performed Friday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. in North Idaho College’s Schuler Performing Arts Center, located in Boswell Hall on the college’s campus in downtown Coeur d’Alene.
