Marjorie M. (Chandler) Stallman, 92

| August 21, 2016 9:00 PM

Marjorie M. (Chandler) Stallman passed away Aug. 10, 2016, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was born March 9, 1924, in Imogene, S.D., to Maxwell and Marietta Chandler.

At age 12, her parents, hard hit by the Depression, moved the family to Hayden, Idaho, to start anew. Marjorie graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1942 and married Alfred Stallman the following year. They had two children, Robert and Lois, both born in Coeur d’Alene. First and foremost Marjorie was a homemaker, taking loving care of her young family as they traveled and lived in several small towns and cities in Washington and Idaho during Alfred’s career with the Washington Water Power Company.

She was actively involved in her children’s lives, including school and sports events, as a Girl Scout leader, a Cub Scout den mother, even designer and seamstress of daughter Lois’s prom dresses. Marjorie was proud of her children and grandchildren, delighting in all their milestones and accomplishments. Her other interests included tending her yard and flower gardens, sewing and later on traveling with her daughter on Elderhostel tours. She was a voracious reader, especially of romance novels, and enjoyed attending Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre productions with her good friend Catherine Francis. She spent some time as a correspondent, penning occasional feature columns for the Lewiston Tribune. After Alfred’s death in 1988, Marjorie pursued her lifelong goal of attending college at age 65 at Walla Walla Community College in Clarkston, Wash. She eventually returned to reside in the city she loved, Coeur d’Alene. She lived at Life Care Center these past two years where she loved and was loved by residents and staff alike. She was rarely in her room, happiest to be out and about in her wheelchair, chatting with everyone, always sporting a big smile. She will be remembered for her quick wit, spunky, teasing sense of humor and her ready laughter.

Marjorie is survived by her son Robert (Shera), daughter Lois (John) Largent, grandchildren Erik (Jenny) Stallman, Charlie Grasham, Cary (Rob) Imeson, James (Polly) Grasham and numerous great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Clifford (Grace) Chandler, Evelyn (Jim) Bossingham and Ward (Betty) Chandler. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred, siblings Hank, Fred, Merle, Ruth and Caryl. Special thanks to Dr. Downs, nurse Nikki and all her caregivers and staff of Life Care Center for their constant and compassionate care.

Funeral service will be Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene followed by a graveside service at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
