The smell of smoke permeated downtown Coeur d’Alene Wednesday night after firefighters knocked down a blaze that damaged a three-story building on Sherman Avenue.

The three-alarm fire broke out around 7 on the second story of the structure at the corner of Fourth Street and Sherman. The Beacon Pub is on the first floor and the Pita Pit has offices in the building.

The adjacent Cellar CDA restaurant was evacuated, and witnesses reported the establishment was full of smoke.

Two blocks of Sherman Avenue were shut down as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames and investigate the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported and the full extent of damage had not yet been determined Wednesday night.

The investigation into the fire’s cause is ongoing.
