USPS: Here to serve

Amazing and positive results can be achieved in Congress when both Democrats and Republicans work together (bipartisan) to strengthen services that benefit all Americans such as the United States Postal Service (USPS).

Democrat and Republican leaders, in the House Committee of Oversight and Government Reform have come up with two new bills: The Postal Service Reform Act of 2016 (H.R. 5714) and The Postal Service Financial Improvement Act (H.R. 5707). These bills would restructure retirements and health benefits. Although these bills need some changes and have a long way to go, they would maintain a stable Postal Service which is necessary in rural Idaho.

Rural states like Idaho would also benefit with Post Offices offering banking services. Vote by mail would also be a benefit to voters to increase turnout by making it convenient and safe to vote. The U.S. mint could sell some of its most popular products in Post Offices.

Keeping the USPS healthy and convenient to the customers would be a smart decision by Congress because even in this time of new technology, the Postal Service is still a part of serving American communities.
