Time out! A dose of inspiration
The Internet and airwaves overflow with stress and stupidity. Our times call for truth, togetherness, toughness and wisdom. Instead, we get misinformation. We get anger. We get fear. We get a headache. We get heartache.
Today we get a little respite.
We’re turning off the TV, computer and smartphone. This week we’re plugging into some of the words of wisdom and optimism that have guided men and women through challenging times before. If we listen, they can do so again.
‘The secret of getting ahead is getting started.’
‘You can’t depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus.’
‘Get your facts first. Then you can distort them as you please.’
‘The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.’
‘All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure.’
‘Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.’
‘Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company.’
‘It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.’
‘Part of the secret of a success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside.’
‘Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.’
