Indians top Volcanoes

KEIZER, Ore. — Carlos Garay doubled to score Preston Scott with the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning, leading the Spokane Indians to a 6-4 win over the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in Northwest League baseball in front of 1,637 at Volcanoes Stadium on Thursday.

It was the first game in the league since Sunday following the second Northwest League vs. Pioneer League All-Star Game, which was held on Tuesday in Orem, Utah.

Leody Taveras drove in two runs on the night for Spokane (4-3 second half), which stranded 11 runners on base. Anderson Tejeda went 3 for 5 with three runs scored for Spokane.

Mark Vasquez struck out five over four scoreless innings to get the win for Spokane.

Mac Marshall allowed nine hits over five innings for Salem-Keizer (3-4).

The teams resume the five-game series tonight at 6:35.
