Margaret Montandon, 98

Margaret Montandon went home to be with the Lord Feb. 28, 2015.

Margaret was born Jan. 1, 1917, in Harrison, Idaho, to Elmer and Edith Osborn. Her family moved to Coeur d'Alene where she attended Bryan Grade School and then on to Coeur d'Alene High School on Seventh Street. Margaret worked at the candy counter at Woolworth's Five and Dime in downtown Coeur d'Alene after graduation. She enjoyed eating chocolate candy for the rest of her life.

In June of 1940 Margaret married Richard Montandon. Richard paid the North Idaho Junior College carpentry class to build their home on Pennsylvania Avenue. Margaret kept business accounts for the family hardware stores. She was bookkeeper for Coast to Coast Hardware on Sherman Avenue, Gambles Hardware on Fourth Street, and Ace Hardware on Sherman Avenue.

Margaret was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 35 years. She also kept the business records for First Baptist Women Circles for 43 years, from 1953 to 1996, and served on the church building committee.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Montandon, in 1997. She is survived by her son, John Montandon and his wife Sally of Coeur d'Alene, and their three children: Rick, David, and Sarah; daughter Jan Hess and her husband Brian Hess of Colbert, Wash., and their two children Daydra and Matt; daughter Joan Zanetti and her sons, Carey and Craig, of Wallace, Idaho; and four great-grandchildren: Hanna and Sophia Hess, Katelynn Montandon and Aaron Anderson.

The family would like to thank the caregivers from Pacifica Courtyard (formerly Bee Hive Homes) and River City Hospice.

A celebration of Margaret's life will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel, 744 N. Fourth Street.
