FRONT ROW: Hoop tourneys in Cd'A, but that's not all

Three area gyms will be busy today through Wednesday, each boasting eight-team holiday basketball tournaments.

The Lake City Invitational high school boys hoops tourney takes place at Lake City High. Local teams are Post Falls, Lakeland, Sandpoint and the host Timberwolves. Play consists of three days of pre-determined matchups pitting local teams vs. out-of-town squads.

The Coeur d’Alene Winter Classic high school girls hoops tourney unfolds at Coeur d’Alene High’s Elmer Jordan Court. Local teams include Lake City, Post Falls, Sandpoint and the host Vikings. The bracketed tourney concludes with the championship game Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.

After eight years as a high school tournament, the Coeur d’Alene Inn-vitational is now a college men’s tourney hosted by North Idaho College. That tourney concludes with the title game Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

NIC’s women’s basketball team opens play today at the Lower Columbia College tournament in Longview, Wash.

Lakeland High’s girls play Priest River today and Riverside on Tuesday at the West Valley holiday tournament.

Coeur d’Alene High’s boys travel to southern Idaho for the Centennial Christmas tournament Thursday through Saturday at the College of Idaho in Caldwell.

Lake City’s boys and girls ring in the new year on Friday by traveling to East Wenatchee, Wash., to play Eastmont.

Post Falls’ wrestling team travels to Moses Lake on Saturday for the Hall of Fame Duals.

Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy’s boys and girls basketball teams tip off their Central Idaho League schedules, playing host to Grangeville on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic School.
