LIBERAL? Here's a report card
About four months ago, Joe Gerards wrote a letter complaining about all of the Letters to the Editor being published that were written by me. He stated “the editors have a liberal bias.’’ The editor’s note at the end of his letter stated, “In 2015 the Press has published three opinions pieces by Daniel Gressler. Including today, it published five opinion pieces by Joe Gerards.” So much for liberal bias.
Mr. Gerards then accused me of “character assassination” because I didn’t know what these people think. I know what they think by what they write in their opinions to the Press.
Since his letter I have noticed there has been about a 5 to 1 ratio of opinions in favor of conservatives. In October, Ralph Hollock had two different letters published in the same week. Again, so much for liberal bias.
Now I want to say great My turn by Jeff Bourget in Friday’s Dec. 18 Press. It’s nice to have the facts on our side.
In the last Republican debate, the only thing I heard was a lot of “fear mongering” and the phrase “political correctness.’’ Since 9-11 there have been many, many more people killed by non-Muslim American citizens than by ISIS recruits radicalized in the United States. Needless to say, the Republicans did not mention a word about this in their debate. The only chance of having a Republican president will be through fear mongering or, if they can find the way, to gerrymander the presidential election.
As for Mr. Membury’s statement of wealth redistribution to be a “losing game,” apparently he did not read the article about some of Idaho’s high ranking Republican elected officials and the hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal subsidies they receive every year for their ranches and farms. What a bunch of hypocrites! Of course, it’s all right to spend $2 million of the taxpayers’ dollars on frivolous lawsuits that they have lost (gay marriage, health care, and now Planned Parenthood has sued the State of Idaho because lawmakers will not follow the federal law). This wasted taxpayer money could have been used for better things like schools and infrastructure.
Also, now would be the time to raise the gasoline tax to fix the bridges and highways while gas is at such a low price.
