COEUR d'ALENE — A political action committee that supported two losing candidates in last month's Coeur d'Alene city elections has missed a deadline for filing a campaign finance disclosure report.

That PAC, called Responsible CDA, could soon face fines of $50 per day until the 30-Day Post-General Election report is filed with the city. It was due Thursday, Dec. 3.

Coeur d'Alene City Clerk Renata McLeod said Monday that a fine can be assessed if the report isn't received within five days of receiving written notice of the filing requirement. She mailed that notice Friday.

She said she reached out to Responsible CDA committee chairman Douglas J. Balija on Friday, using a phone number the committee provided.

"I tried the phone number last week and it was disconnected," McLeod said.

Responsible CDA was behind a campaign flier supporting incumbent City Councilman Steve Adams and city council candidate Toby Schindelbeck. Schindelbeck went on to lose to incumbent Ron Edinger and Adams lost to challenger Dan English.

The fliers from Responsible CDA also suggested Mayor Steve Widmyer and Councilman Dan Gookin supported disbanding the city's urban renewal agency, ignite cda. Widmyer and Gookin issued statements saying that wasn't true.

Conservative political activist Brent Regan gave $1,570 in in-kind contributions to Responsible CDA on Oct. 27, according to a document the PAC filed on Oct. 29.
