ST. MARIES — Brady Martin had 12 points and 13 rebounds, leading the St. Maries Lumberjacks past the Kootenai Warriors in the nonleague opener for both schools on Wednesday.
The game, originally scheduled for Harrison Flats, was moved to St. Maries due to a roof leak at the Kootenai High Gym.
“We kind of wore them down a little in the first quarter and turned it into a track meet in the second quarter,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “We didn’t shoot the ball well from the floor, but we were able to get it to the basket when we needed to.”
Nate Masterson had 10 points and seven rebounds, Kiefer Gibson had seven points and six steals and Drake Lounsbury had five steals for St. Maries, which travels to Tekoa-Rosalia on Saturday.
Anthony Keogh had 17 points for Kootenai, which faces Coeur d’Alene Charter tonight at Holy Family Catholic School.

SPIRIT LAKE — Brayden Menti scored 12 points and Jestin Hofer added 11 points, but the Tigers lost their season opener in nonleague action to the Knights.
“The score didn’t show it, but I thought we did okay,” Timberlake coach Tony Hanna said. “They have a real good team, they made eight 3-pointers in the game. They were 19 of 26 from the free-throw line. They threw quite a bit of pressure on us, but I thought we played pretty good defense. We didn’t score as many points as I’d like us to, but overall for a first game it was OK.”
Trevor Jacobs scored a game-high 17 points for East Valley.
Timberlake plays today at Deer Park.

SPIRIT LAKE — The Tigers withstood a third-quarter rally to beat the Knights in nonleague play.
“They had a great third quarter,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “They did a good job of getting to the rim. Their top scorer (Genesis Wilkinson) is a freshman, we struggled with her size. Down the stretch, we kind of held off their run and were able to make free throws down the stretch. We went 8 for 9 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.”
Junior Keelie Lawler led all scorers with 19 points for the Tigers (2-1) while Allison Kirby added 15.
