Timberlake blanks Bonners for title

SPIRIT LAKE - Senior Hunter Tonkin pitched a complete-game shutout Saturday, allowing two hits on only 46 pitches as the Timberlake Tigers defeated the Bonners Ferry Badgers 10-0 in in five innings in the 3A District 1 tournament championship game to advance to the state tournament starting Thursday at Fruitland High.

"Hunter had a good day today with 10 ground ball outs, two flyouts and three strikeouts," Timberlake coach Bill Rider said. "He was just awesome."

Bryce Johnson drove in four runs and Mason Cramer had three hits and four runs scored for Timberlake (15-8), which opens at state against Snake River on Thursday at noon PDT.

"We played awesome on defense today and hit the ball enough to score some runs," Rider said. "It was a good job all the way around."

Bonners Ferry finishes 9-9.
