NIC pharmacy technology program earns accreditation

COEUR d'ALENE - North Idaho College's Pharmacy Technology Certificate program was awarded national accreditation by the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists. The program is the only accredited Pharmacy Technology program in the state of Idaho.

The pharmacy technology program prepares students for positions working under the supervision of a licensed and registered pharmacist in retail and institutional pharmacy practice settings.

"The program was designed to meet the upcoming 2020 requirement that applicants seeking to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam must have graduated from an accredited program," said Christy Doyle, NIC dean of health professions and nursing. "In addition to the national accreditation, the program recently received national certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Association to provide both Sterile Products (IV) and Extemporaneous Compounding certifications."

All NIC students who completed the Pharmacy Technology program during 2013 have graduated from an accredited program. NIC will soon begin issuing new certificates to those graduates.
