Irvina Bradford Alden, 90

| June 25, 2014 6:51 AM

Irvina Bradford Alden passed away June 23, 2014.

Irvina was born on July 8, 1923, in Duxbury, Mass., to Joseph and Grace Jones. She met John Cross Alden in 1946 while on a double date with dear friends, and they were married on April 19, 1947, in Belmont, Mass. Irvina and John had an electrical contracting business in Duxbury for 10 years while raising their three children.

In 1956, a job opportunity with Lockheed Aircraft led the family to Glendale, Calif., and to Glendale Presbyterian Church. Shortly thereafter, the Lord Jesus called the family to His heart and Irvina and her family joyfully participated in their new Christian life. Irvina taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, was a Bible Study Fellowship teaching leader, a church secretary, and manager at the Christian Supply Center in Glendale.

After Irvina and John moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, she worked behind the counter of the new family business, Kits Camera, in the Silverlake Mall.

As time progressed, Irvina's family grew, and along came two daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Irvina enjoyed making meals with a special pinch of love for everyone, and joyfully shared how to make a superior apple pie with her daughters-in-law. Motor home traveling with John throughout the United States, and a tour of Israel in 1995, were highlights of Irvina's retirement, followed by a three week motor tour of Europe and England with dearest friends, Grant and Doris Swanlund.

Irvinia is survived by John, her husband of 67 years; children: Jackie, Brad, and Gerry; daughters-in-law, Sue and Grethel; grandchildren: Mindy, Myles, Michelle, Lydia, Nicholas, and Jay; and their spouses: Andrew, Tiana, Nathan, and Lindsey; great grandchildren: Caleb, Catelyn, Daelyn, Carson, Luke, Maddie, Quin, Jack, Ainsley, and little red-headed Knox.

We are all comforted knowing that she is now rejoicing in the presence of her dear Savior, the Lord Jesus, those who have gone before her, and is waiting patiently for John, the love of her life.

Irvina will always be remembered for her steadfast love for God, devotion to family, strength of character, and that beautiful smile of Spirit radiating from her heart, even through the ravages of Alzheimer's.

The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 28, at Grace Bible Church, 152 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Yates Funeral home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Irvina's memorial and sign her online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
