Rays notch 6th straight win

David Price struck out 12 over eight strong innings and Jose Molina hit his first homer of the season to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to their sixth straight win, 7-2 over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The Rays, who are a major league-best 19-8, improved to 13-1 at home and won for the 12th time in 13 games overall.

Price (5-1) threw just 106 pitches while allowing an earned run, three hits and a walk. He is the second AL pitcher to win five games this season, joining teammate James Shields, who got his fifth victory Wednesday.

Price also struck out each A's starter once, including Cuban rookie Yoenis Cespedes twice.

Tigers 5, White Sox 4: Jhonny Peralta's two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Detroit the win over visiting Chicago.

Indians 6, Rangers 3: Johnny Damon hit a two-run triple and Jeanmar Gomez pitched seven strong innings as Cleveland beat visiting Texas.

Orioles 6, Red Sox 4, 13 inn.: Chris Davis drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the top of the 13th and visiting Baltimore outlasted Boston.

Yankees 6, Royals 2: Derek Jeter belted a two-run homer, C.C. Sabathia went eight innings as visiting New York beat Kansas City. Royals left-hander Bruce Chen has lost four straight after getting saddled with a pair of no decisions to start the year.

Blue Jays 4, Angels 0: At Anaheim, Calif., Henderson Alvarez pitched his first major league shutout with a six-hitter and Jose Bautista homered as visiting Toronto beat Los Angeles.

Cubs 5, Dodgers 4: Paul Maholm pitched six crisp innings for his third consecutive win as Chicago beat visiting Los Angeles. Before the game, Cubs reliever Carlos Marmol was removed as the team's closer, one day after blowing a ninth inning lead in Cincinnati on Thursday. Bobby Abreu, signed earlier on Friday by the Dodgers, went 0 for 2 in his debut with the team.

Reds 6, Pirates 1: Johnny Cueto gave up seven hits in his first complete game of the season as visiting Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh.

Nationals 4, Phillies 3, 11 inn.: Pinch-hitter Wilson Ramos delivered an RBI single with two out in the bottom of the 11th as Washington outlasted visiting Philadelphia.

Diamondbacks 5, Mets 4: Cody Ransom hit a two-run homer and go-ahead single in the eighth inning as visiting Arizona rallied to beat New York.

Astros 5, Cardinals 4: Jose Altuve hit a three-run home in the second inning and Houston held on against visiting St. Louis.

Braves 9, Rockies 8, 11 inn.: At Denver, Eric Hinske had four hits, including a tiebreaking two-run homer in the 11th inning and Atlanta beat Colorado.

Brewers 6, Giants 4: Aramis Ramirez hit a two-run single in the seventh inning as visiting Milwaukee beat San Francisco without reigning NL MVP, who sat out the game with a sore right Achillies tendon.
