Poll voters split on fireworks funding

| June 12, 2012 2:56 PM

Most Press readers think the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce should continue funding the annual Fourth of July fireworks celebration the same way they have been doing it - with donations collected by the chamber.

Following a chamber representative's recent announcement that the cost of the downtown patriotic celebration is double the $30,000 the chamber seeks to raise each year, The Press asked readers how they think the fireworks should be paid for.

Here's how readers responded:

• 42 percent (301 voters) said they think the chamber should continue collecting the donations

• 22 percent (163 voters) said they think a corporate sponsor should pay for the celebration

• 6 percent (42 voters) said they think the fireworks should be paid for with funds raised by a service club

• 30 percent (220 voters) said "Forget the fireworks"
