PREP ROUNDUP: Trojans pull away down stretch to defeat Eagles

POST FALLS - Senior Danielle Failor had 12 points and seven rebounds as the Post Falls Trojans pulled away late to defeat the West Valley Eagles 51-31 in a nonleague game Tuesday night at The Arena.

"We just didn't come out focused and ready to play," Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. "West Valley played very well defensively and just mentally, we just weren't ready to play. It was a five-point game with four minutes left, but we went on a bit of a run to end the game."

Hallee Gennett scored 12 points for Post Falls (10-0), which hosts Lakeland on Friday in the Prairie Pig spirit game.

Erin Higbie scored 13 points for West Valley.

RATHDRUM - Kacie Derby had 13 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for the Hawks in a nonleague loss to the Greyhounds.

"Kacie played her best game of the season by far," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "We played well in the first quarter and then it was kind of like a balloon where the air starts to get let out. We did some things better than we have all year and I thought our defense was OK, but offensively it's like there's a lid on the bucket right now."

Lakeland (2-11) travels to Post Falls for the Prairie Pig spirit games on Friday.

"Tonight we just gutted it out on defense," Charter coach Doug Grant said. "We didn't shoot the ball well from the floor (30 percent), but we pulled out a good win on the road."

Charter (9-1, 2-0) plays at Mullan on Thursday.

"It was a good couple of wins right before Christmas break," Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. "Gabe Ross looked really good, Sean White looked good. I was pleased with how aggressive we were."

COEUR d'ALENE - Cory Dan won by pin at 160 pounds for the Timberwolves, who had seven starters out due to injury or illness in the loss to the Eagles.

"The guys we had wrestled hard," Lake City coach Corey Owen said. "We're just really banged up right now, so we put the best team that wasn't sick or hurt and they wrestled their butts off. But when you're missing half your lineup, it's not easy to win."

Corey Wells (120) and Jacob Farnsworth (145) won by decision for Lake City (2-3), which travels to Timberlake on Thursday.
